Downloading, installing and patching the Simply Personnel software:
1. On the client PC, download the setup file:https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/28632247/Downloads/setup2010r1.exe
2. You will need to download the following files for the upgrade:
1. https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/28632247/Downloads/2012%20R1%20...
3. Run setup2010r1.exe (this will need to be done with Administrator privileges).
4. Use all of the default options throughout the installation process.
5. When finished, open up 2012r1_build_9300_per.zip – you will find a file called Per.exe inside.
6. Use Windows Explorer to get to C:\Program Files\Simply Personnel (on 64bit Operating Systems it will be C:\Program Files (x86)\Simply Personnel)
7. Rename or delete the existing Per.exe file here.
8. Copy the Per.exe from the downloaded per.zip into this folder.
9. This will patch your Simply Personnel executable to the latest build.
Setting up the ODBC connection to the SQL database on a 64bit Operating System:
1. On the client PC, go to Windows Explorer / My Computer, then Navigate to the following folder: C:\Windows\SysWOW64
2. Inside here, search for and open the following file: odbcad32.exe
3. Follow the same instructions from Step 3 as above.
4. A screen will open with several tabs along the top. Pick the tab labelled System DSN.
5. You will see a list of connections. Two of them will be called Personnel and PersonnelDemo.
6. Click the Personnel connection to select it, then click Remove. This is safe to do so – the installer has placed a connection to a blank Access database which we need to change into a SQL connection.
7. Do not remove the PersonnelDemo connection – it will cause a problem later.
8. Click Add. A new window will open with a list of connection drivers.
9. Scroll to find the SQL Server driver and select it.
10. In the next screen, give the connection a Name of Personnel – the spelling must be exact or the software will not find it.
11. In the Server drop-down box you should be able to find your SQL server instance, but if not just copy/paste or type the name into this box and press Next.
12. Assuming you’ve followed each instruction to the letter so far, you should be able to click Next again and get past the Authentication screen without an error. If you receive an error here then it indicates a problem with communication between the client and server. Please see suggested notes below in the Error Messages During ODBC Configuration section for details.
13. In the following screen, check the top-most drop-down box says Personnel – again if you have followed the instructions to the letter it should be already set. If not, simply tick the box and select Personnel from the list.
14. Carry on clicking Next – the rest of the options are fine as their defaults.
